I'm going to start this post with saying, yes I'm very much a Blackjack. I'm also an intense lover of all things YG entertainment. This doesn't make me biased when it comes to other groups though. Like I said before if it sounds good, and has a good video. Then I'll end up liking it. That's kind of the attitude that brought me to Kpop in the first place.
I'm a lover of good music. Now I gave this little intro/warning because I want to give full disclosure to anyone reading. Knowing that I'm fully admitting which band is my fav, and what music house I really enjoy. Some of the comments I plan on giving in this review/recap may be seen as favoritism, and I want everyone to know that has nothing to do with that. I'm just calling it how I'm seeing it. With that being said here we go.
When I first saw the teaser for this video, the first thing I thought of was 2ne1. That was because their full look seems that it is being influenced by 2ne1's style. Now a lot of people get really upset when you say a band is swagger jacking, well that's the nature of the beast. Especially in Kpop, When a group/band becomes really popular. You can expect other music houses to try to "remake" that magic. Sometimes they do a really good job, and sometimes they fail.
I know there is a big debate about if B.A.P is just a Big Bang Copycat. I do feel some of the style from Big Bang was considered when making B.A.P., but I don't feel they are a total copycat. They have their own style, and their management is marketing geniuses. Like I said when they are putting these new bands together, they are going to try to make sure they are getting elements of what is popular today, and they aren't bad for it.
Evol to me is one of those bands, They are a new band that happens to have a lot of the same style, and music as 2NE1. Does that make them a bad band. No it doesn't, does this mean we should yell and get into e-fights over this because we are hardcore blackjacks. No we shouldn't. It's not going to change anything, it's just the way the industry works.
2ne1 has nothing to worry about, because with each single they come out with something new. Also I don't think anyone can really make a full on copycat band of 2ne1, because it's so much more than their style that makes them as popular as they are. It's mostly their personalities.
They are so different, yet they fit together so well as a band. That's what makes them so endearing for us as fans. Personality is such a big thing, and no matter how many bands you put together trying to be something else. The personality still won't be there, so you will never fully make a copycat of that band.
Evol "We are a bit different" Review/Recap
I like this song. I didn't know how I would feel about the song when I first heard it, but after listening to it a few times. I've really grown to like it a lot. You should never judge a song by the first listen, it's very rare that I find a song that i'm totally in love with from the first listen of it. When I do though, that's just an epic song lol. Ok so I really like this song, and the video looks awesome. So the question I'm asking is, What the hell is going on in this video. Seriously. Like i'm trying to figure out how anything with the video has anything to do with anything. I don't have to have all my songs and videos match. I actually enjoy abstract videos a lot. The videos that have nothing to do with the song are fine. With this video I got a feeling that it was supposed to have something to do with the song, and it totally didn't. I looked at the description for the video, and I must admit I always enjoy break downs on Leonent videos. Not because they are incredible insightful, but because they always try super hard to tell you the meaning of the song, and sometimes they get wayyyy too descriptive. This time they are just really giving you an intro to the band Evol, and not talking about the video this time. This is the time that I really need that box to give me a clue what is going on.

A different newness from the past, EvoL's mini-album "Make it explode!"
EvoL's members were recruited based on those who were fascinated with the production concept of seeking to create a K-pop girl group that had evolved one step further. The members are not only singer-songwriters, which has become natural for artists of Stardom, but also show power and boldness in their choreography, vocals, and concept.
The leader Say and main rapper Jucy participated in the lyrics, music, and song formation since the beginning of their training period, resulting in their debut not with a single but a mini-album.
Consisting of 5 tracks, prominent new producers, including Xepy, Rhythm King, Kim Yong-Hyun, Park Ha-Ra, and Daniel Kim, took part in the mini-album.
The agency announced that songs amounting to a full album had been selected and recorded in advance and although they would like to have fans listen to as many songs as soon as possible, they would take a step-by-step approach.
One should pay attention to whether Evol, seeking newness and powerfulness as their shocking title suggests, will indeed make the world of K-pop explode.
What I'm getting from the video is that they are at war with something, and like I think it's the end of the world. It's always the end of the world in videos lately. They are in the army, or something. Oh wait they aren't in the military, because they are like burning stuff. The thing that always gets me about like end of the world videos is that even though it's the end of the world. They still are able to find amazing stylist. Random road flares. I really like the half and half hair. Like a lot. Oooooo Pretty colored speakers. You know they aren't really helping things with the end of the world by burning up everything.
Wait I get it. Ding ding ding. Lightbulb. Everything is supposed to represent Kpop, and they are changing the face of K-pop. They are burning stuff up, and making it explode. So They did tell me what the video was about in the intro, I just wasn't thinking. Well played Loenent. Ok I get it now, and Now I really like the Video as well as the song.
Now it makes sense why they are styled so well, because in the world of kpop. Everyone looks amazing, even at the end of the world. So yes as a blackjack, I like this group. I do still think they may have been shaped a little after 2ne1, but I think they also were shaped after a few groups. Again even if they were, that doesn't matter. Because Good Music is Good Music. :D
